What is chiropractic? What do you do?
Chiropractors adjust the spine (we can also adjust other parts/joints of the body.) With daily wear and tear, trauma, or chemical stress your spine becomes misaligned. By aligning your spine we restore proper nerve function. And because nerves control the entire human body, chiropractic adjustments can have a phenomenal affect on the body. |
Do adjustments hurt?
Most people do not experience discomfort during an adjustment. It is normal to feel sore after your first adjustment or two. It's similar to going to the gym for the first time and working muscles that you haven't used in a while, that kind of sore. |
Will I have to go forever?
Well, it depends on what your goal is. And I let you decide. Most people will figure out that they feel better when they are getting adjusted, so they make it a part of their life. Others come until they feel better and then come back when they feel the need. It all depends on if you want to get rid of pain or if you want to experience better health. But, you won't get addicted. |
How often will I have to get adjusted?
As often as your situation demands. I know, the old, it depends. But, I think you would be happier if I treated each patient according to their own situation rather than telling everyone that they need to come three times a week for two months. Big trauma = more adjustments. Years of neglect = more adjustments. Young family looking to improve health with overall good quality of life = less adjustments. You get the picture. |
Is chiropractic just for back pain and headaches?
No. When there is a subluxation (misalignment) in the spine, the nerves that exit from the spine are compromised. The information that those nerves carry from the brain to the body can be affected, jumbled, slow, etc. For example, that information may be going to the intestines to digest and move food. If the messages are slow or mixed up you may become constipated. If those nerve messages are going to the bronchioles, airways may not fully dilate, resembling asthma. We can talk about your particular questions when you come in. |
Do you cure ear infections?
No. I will adjust the spine, usually the upper neck. The nerves then function properly allowing the muscles to relax and the lymph system to drain, getting rid of bacteria that can lead to infection. By adjusting the spine I am letting the body heal itself. I am helping the body to function at its highest level which means better immune function. Chiropractic care is a great way to increase your child's immune system without the use of drugs and their side effects. |
Is it safe for children?
Yes! Chiropractic is very safe for children. I will not adjust a child the same way I adjust an adult. Structurally, their bodies are not fully developed and spinal correction requires very little force. Through my certification in pediatric/child chiropractic I have gained so much knowledge on how TO and how NOT to adjust children. This certificate program of an additional 180 hours of classroom time provides much more information on adjusting children than I received from chiropractic college alone. If you want to know more about chiropractic care for kids the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) website is a great place to start. Please visit the website at www.icpa4kids.org to read more. I am also happy to offer a free consultation to talk with you one on one about your child and any questions you have. |
Is it safe for pregnant women?
Yes! I would never go through a pregnancy without it. Once again, the ICPA website has links to great articles on the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy including shorter labor times, relief of low back and under belly pain, and better baby position while under chiropractic care. I am certified in Webster Technique specifically for the pregnant woman. If you have questions regarding Webster Technique feel free to call the office or set up a free consultation. |
How long does it take?
The first appointment will take up to 1 hour. We'll do an exam and x-rays if they are needed. After that adjustments only take about 5 minutes. |
Do I need a referral?
No one needs a referral for chiropractic care. We accept cash, check, or credit card (Visa or MasterCard.) We are a provider for Health Alliance. You may need a referral if you are filing with Health Alliance. You can call the customer service # on the back of your insurance card to find out if you need a referral. If you have insurance other than Health Alliance we can give you the forms you need to file with your insurance and any refunds will be sent straight to you. |
How much does it cost?
The cost of an adjustment may vary depending on your particular situation. Cash patients over the age of 5 will pay $50 when implementing the Preferred Chiropractic Doctor (PCD) benefit. If you chose not to use PCD, adjustments are $67. Infant adjustments are normally $45 with PCD. To utilize the benefits of PCD you will pay a one time fee of $37 for an entire year. All members of your family will then be able to use the PCD benefits. Exams, x-rays, therapies, and adjustments are 25% off with PCD. Why PCD? It is actually illegal for chiropractors to charge patients different amounts based on whether they pay cash or if they use their insurance. This is called price fixing. Chiropractors are at risk for being audited when they price fix. To protect myself and allow cash patients a discount we must go through a company such as PCD. McCabe Chiropractic does not collect the $37. We have no reason to try to sell you on PCD other than to save you money as a cash paying patient. This allows McCabe Chiropractic to accept insurance as well as making it affordable for those without insurance. When would this be important? If you were rear-ended, the at fault driver's insurance would pay for your chiropractic care. If you go to a chiropractor who only takes cash patients you would have to switch to a different chiropractor until you were healed from the accident. At McCabe Chiropractic you can get affordable chiropractic care without the hassle of insurance, and know that you won't have to switch chiropractors if you are injured in an accident or if you get new insurance. Feel free to call the clinic at 217-355-1798 if you have questions regarding your particular situation.
